All works submitted through the Rainwater/Eau de pluie/Agua de Lluvia website (thethirstyplanet.com) are automatically eligible for
the Raindrops Geneva 2011 – “Best Photographs on the advantages of the use of rainwater competition.”
Topics or themes for the photographic works should be the photographer’s interpretation of “Best Photographs on the advantages of the use of rainwater” . The competition and its resulting activities is part of a process to raise awareness of rainwater harvesting as a sustainable and viable proposition in providing access to clean water for people around the world. The results of these activities can be access to clean water for drinking, sanitation and agriculture. There are many issues surrounding rainwater harvesting and the effects of good rainwater harvesting and management are far reaching. They include things such as the dealing with effects of climate change, replenishment of depleting aquifers, sanitation and disease control ( water bourne dieseases and mosquitoes ), ensuring food security, supply of water in arid zones, and so forth- not to mention the celebratory aspects and daily delights of access to clean water . We encourage all participants to take a look at the IRHA website – at http://www.irha-h2o.org/
Below are some of our ideas of themes that can be considered. We believe there maybe more as well. So challenge us!
· Celebration of clean water, the daily delight of access to clean water, Sacred or ritualized use of water or the celebration of rain in ceremonies
· Thirst, scarcity and drought, food security
· Water distribution, including the politics of water distribution, water as a commodity. Impossibility to provide pipe water in remote regions and the role of harvested rainwater for satisfying of the needs.
· Rainwater Harvesting, the best tool for adaptation to the climate changes (storms, floods, drought), or as process in the management of water bourne or water insect bourne diseases
· Rainwater Harvesting, collection, technologies at work, results of these technologies, water purification
Sir/Madame,
Good day!
What does CHF 1000, 600 or 400 mean?
Thank you!

I think you need to be more clear on the subjects. From here it sounds like you have several categories, but from the judging process it sounds like you only have one category. According to the judging it is based on relevance of one category, but here it seems like you are asking for both abstract art pieces like a drop of water on a plant and also pictures of machinery. How can you judge such widely different subject matter as one category? Please clarify.
Since this is a contest for the world, you need to be 100% clear since most people will be reading with English as a second language.
Gary , thankyou for your comment and your request for clarification of the context of the competition. The judging will be based on “Best Photographs on the advantages of the use of rainwater”. The competition and its resulting activities is part of a process to raise awareness of rainwater harvesting as a sustainable an viable proposition in providing access to clean water for people around the world. The results of these activities can be access to clean water for drinking, sanitation and agriculture. We believe the themes are a guide as to the spectrum or range of work that can be considered relevant. Abstract art photography of water drops on a plant as you clearly point out may not be relevant but also a focus on machinery or technology may only cover one small aspect of a very large issue. There are many issues surrounding rainwater harvesting and the effects of good rainwater management are far reaching. They include things such as the dealing with effects of climate change, replenishment of depleting aquifers, sanitation and disease control ( water bourne dieseases and mosquitoes ), ensuring food security, supply of water in arid zones, and so forth- not to mention the celebratory aspects of access to clean water . We encourage all participants to take a look at the IRHA website – at http://www.irha-h2o.org/ We will make sure that the themes page text reflects these intentions. Thanks again for your valuable input.
